Gunmen stormed into the home of a Rio Claro gardener and shot him in the head, making him the ninth murder victim for the long weekend. Police said around 6 am on Sunday, Adesh Debi, 35, Legendre Road, Ecclesville, Rio Claro was at home when the men entered and began firing. He tried to flee but was shot in the head. Debi was taken to the Mayaro District hospital where he died several hours later. In an unrelated incident, WPC Maharaj , attached to Mayaro police station is also warded at hospital after being struck by a motorist while on duty around 2 pm yesterday.
Police said Maharaj was on patrol when she stopped a car driven by a 65-year-old man. However, instead of stopping, the man bounced Maharaj with his car. She was taken to the Mayaro Health Facility where she received treatment. The pensioner was taken to the police station where it a breathalyzer test was administered.
