A prisoner was killed and a police officer shot during a prison breakout at the Port of Spain prison shortly after noon today.

 

A prisoner was killed and a police officer shot during a prison breakout at the Port of Spain prison shortly after noon today.

Allan “Skanny” Martin, was a one of the men on trial for the murder of Vindra Nailapul Coolman.
He died while undergoing surgery at the Port of Spain General Hospital.

He was one of at least three prisoners who made it out of the prison at around 12.30p.m. in a brazen attack involving men dressed in Muslim garb.

The attack happened as the gates to the prison was opened to allow for a prison vehicle to enter.

 

Initial reports are that the several gunmen ran through the entrance and were involved in a shootout.

The escapees got into a black four wheel drive Nissan Navara, which was chased by police officers.

The getaway vehicle crashed near the Port of Spain General Hospital, and the occupants ran through the hospital compound. There was more shooting and at least two people were captured.

The attack happened shortly after noon, as the gate to the prison was open to allow for the prison vehicle to enter.

The police officer is said to have been shot in the buttocks, and it is uncertain how the prison officer was injured.
